The Institute for Advanced Technology, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas, is being awarded a $10,000,000 (ceiling) indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for research, experimental studies, and engineering services for the Naval Electric Weapons and Sensors (NEWS) Program and other technically related programs and projects under cognizance of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division.
This acquisition will support the NEWS team in its mission to provide systems engineering, weapons development and weapon system capability assessments, as well as research and development of new electromagnetic launcher development methodologies, technology assessments, technology-maturity strategies and techniques in the areas of documentation, laboratory testing, computer simulations, electromagnetic launcher rail wear and shot-life assessment. Work will be performed in Austin, Texas, and is expected to be completed by April 2008. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Dahlgren, Va., is the contracting activity (N00178-03-D-2022).
