KT selects Narus IP platform for core of infrastructure protection system
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, May 24, 2004
Narus, the leading carrier-class IP platform software provider, has announced that KT, Korea's largest telecommunications service provider, has deployed the Narus Carrier-Class IP Platform to enable protection of the company's IP network infrastructure through real-time traffic monitoring and detection of cyber attacks. At the core of KT's Traffic Auditing & Provisioning Solution (TAPS) is the Narus IP Platform, which aggregates and correlates all data flowing over the KT network and supplies network administrators with a "Total Network View" of network activity. The Narus IP Platform is integrated with the Datacraft iBOSS (Integrated Business and Operation Systems) management console for intrusion detection and protection.
In January 2003, a worm affected Internet service worldwide, including the KT network, which carries most of Korea's Internet traffic, and effectively disrupted service for several hours. In order to prevent future attacks and preserve system reliability, KT turned to Narus's partner, leading Asian integrator Datacraft Korea, to develop a complete network management solution.
Using RuleSets designed by Narus to detect attacks, the Narus IP Platform aggregates, correlates, and analyzes, in real-time, network and application traffic collected at up to OC 48 rate across the entire core of the KT network. In the event of an attack or anomalous spike in traffic, alerts are sent to Datacraft's provisioning system allowing the system to take countermeasures on the network.
"With the increasing threat of cyber-security incidents, telecommunications companies responsible for operating mission-critical infrastructure must take action to ensure the reliability of their network" said Greg Oslan, president and CEO of Narus. "Datacraft's selection of the Narus IP Platform for KT demonstrates their confidence in Narus as the leading provider of software for Tier 1 carriers."
