Wincor Nixdorf Introduces Battery-Powered Mobile Pos System - Product Announcement

EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, June 11, 2001

Wincor Nixdorf Inc., a leading provider of IT products and solutions to the retail and banking industries, has announced a new Mobile Point-of-Sale system.

The BEETLE /Mobile POS incorporates a standard BEETLE system with DC power supply mounted on a cart and is powered by a standard 12-volt gel cell battery, delivering up to 17 hours of continuous operation. The Mobile POS seamlessly connects to the retail store network using standard wireless LAN components from Symbol Technologies (NYSE:SBL).

Wincor Nixdorf's Mobile POS is the only system in the industry to offer extended battery-powered operation. The system is self-contained within a rolling cart, allowing it to be wheeled to different locations within the store to serve multiple purposes. Untethered by power or network cables, the Mobile POS can be used as a full cash wrap on wheels and as a store management system for inventory, shelf labeling and other functions.

"The Mobile POS is a versatile system that can meet a wide range of needs in a retail store," said Jeff Soisson, vice president, Wincor Nixdorf Retail Solutions Group. "For example, Mobile POS systems can be deployed as additional cash registers in high-traffic areas on weekends, allowing a retailer to bring the store to the customers and greatly increase check-out times. The Mobile POS can also be configured to perform crucial back office functions such as inventory and merchandise management. No other portable POS system offers this combination of flexibility, functionality and long-battery life."

At the heart of the Mobile POS is a standard BEETLE POS system unit, so performance and reliability are assured, and TCO is extremely attractive. A high-performance Intel Celeron or Pentium III processor means fast response time, while an integrated touch screen display allows for a highly efficient operator experience.
