Trimble Wins Multiple Army Contracts - Government Activity

Trimble (Nasdaq: TRMB) has been awarded three equipment contracts from the U.S. Army for construction and surveying. Under the contracts, Trimble will supply machine control equipment, Global Positioning System (GPS) and construction design software. The contracts are valued at approximately $3.1 million.

The first contract, which began shipping in late May 2001, includes Terramodel and TerraVista software used by Army construction and surveying units to design military projects. The U.S. Army has used the Terramodel software since 1994.

The second contract, scheduled for delivery in June 2001, includes a highly specialized kit designed by the Army to conduct strategic hydrogaphic survey missions. The kit includes the GPS Pathfinder Pro XRS system as well as the Terramodel and TerraVista software. The Pathfinder Pro XRS system was selected for its outstanding accuracy, quality and reliability under adverse conditions experienced by the Army. The Army selected Terramodel and TerraVista software due to its already extensive use within the Army; it also exceeds the stringent requirements for civil design software.

The third contract, which began shipping in late May 2001, includes the Trimble 1145-2 Dual Slope Laser systems, Gradio laser receivers for dozers, BradePro motorgrader control system and BucketPro system for Army excavators. During 1995, the U.S. Army evaluated the equipment at Fort Irwin, Calif., and demonstrated that significant saving in productivity, time, labor and materials could be achieved through the use of these systems. Trimble's earthmoving control systems will be installed on equipment owned by the Army, National Guard and Army Reserve. The contract also includes installation, training and support.
