Ptsc Announces New Javaseed Processor Technology - Company Business and Marketing

EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, July 2, 2001

Patriot Scientific Corp. (OTCBB:PTSC) has announced JavaSeed, a new, patent-pending, processor technology that allows the pervasive and economical use of the Java language even down to the sensor level by vastly reducing the cost of using Java in systems.

The company is marketing JavaSeed to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and prospective licensees for use in a wide variety of consumer and industrial applications where no system resources are available and seamless Java compatibility is desired. Examples would include, use within distributed sensors, smart card and control applications. JavaSeed also offers the same advantages when used in emerging network appliances such as multi-use set-top boxes, games, security systems and wireless applications.

The new PTSC technology minimizes system resource requirements to unparalleled levels, produces virtually universal system compatibility, and reduces system costs compared to conventional virtual machine systems. JavaSeed processor technology supports the full range of Java enterprise functionality. Also, it provides a unique methodology that allows system developers to ensure forward capability of deployed systems with evolving virtual machine technologies, ideally suited for integration with the company's high performance IGNITE product suite and JUICEtechnology. PTSC has initiated discussions with prospective JavaSeed licensees, and the company expects to license JavaSeed to multiple licensees within the next 3 quarters.

"Java Seed technologies will be the basis for twenty-first century products that will have the ability to be dynamically upgraded with both software and logic on the customer premises," said Dr. Patrick Nunally, vice president and chief technology officer of PTSC. "The incipient architecture of JavaSeed will revolutionize and significantly extend the employment of Java at the very lowest levels of system processing, especially in pervasive computing products."

Serge J. Miller, vice president of engineering for PTSC, said, "JavaSeed is a breakthrough in processor technology, allowing Java to take on a completely new role in products. The unique, patent pending design of JavaSeed is the first processor that has low enough size, power and cost requirements to be effectively integrated at levels of processing that are far beneath what industry pundits refer to as 'deeply-embedded' system levels, but is more aptly called the substrate level."

Founded in 1987, PTSC designs, markets and manufactures advanced microprocessor technology aimed at the World Wide Web and Internet appliances as well as traditional embedded systems markets. IGNITE I is the first embedded microprocessor available based on Removed Operand Set Computer (ROSC) architecture.
