Data Connection demonstrates software for layer 3 IP VPNS and re-routing at SUPERCOMM 2004

EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, June 21, 2004

Data Connection Limited (DCL), the world's leading provider of communications protocol software, today announced that it would be demonstrating 2547 MPLS/BGP VPNs and automatic network recovery using its carrier-grade IP Routing and MPLS solutions in the Isocore technology showcase at SUPERCOMM 2004.

"We are delighted to be participating in the Isocore showcase," said Matthew Finlayson, VP Development and Requirements in Data Connection's Networking Protocols Group. "Our participation in this wide ranging demo builds on our protocol leadership."

Data Connection's emulated router will operate in the Isocore network in two locations. It will act as a node in the converged IP/MPLS core, demonstrating rerouting around simulated failures in the core optical network using MPLS fast re-route techniques. It will also provide Layer 3 VPN services, acting as a full 2547 MPLS/BGP VPN edge router.

"This shows that the combination of Data Connection's portable software, with its inherent scalability and reliability, is an exceptional starting point for OEMs building provider edge and core routers", said Phil McConnell, CEO of Data Connection.

The components being demonstrated form part of Data Connection's IP Routing and MPLS product families, which include DCOSPF, DC-ISIS, DC-RIP, DC-BGP, DC-MPLS and DC-VPN Manager. These can be integrated to provide a complete control plane solution for PE routers, or can be used on their own or with third-party products.

They include full solutions for

--2547 MPLS/BGP VPNs

--layer 2 VPN applications such as VPLS and VPWS

--optical signaling and routing using GMPLS, OIF UNI or NNI.

All these solutions are being demonstrated at SUPERCOMM by Data Connection or by its customers.

All Data Connection's protocol products operate within Data Connection's unique "NBASE" environment, which provides portability, scalability, and performance, at the very highest levels of resilience and availability as demanded by the leading carriers. The N-BASE has been proven in a wide range of networking devices for over 10 years and allows Data Connection's software to be used on VxWorks, Linux, OSE, Nucleus, Integrity, pSOS, UNIX, Solaris and many other operating systems. The N-BASE environment also supports easy distribution of components over multiple threads, processes or processors, where extreme scalability or redundancy is necessary.
