New Streaming Technology Eliminates Java Applet Download Delays
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, June 28, 1999
AppStream of New York City says its new technology for streaming Java applications over the Internet virtually eliminates the delays associated with Java applet downloads through a combination of dynamic segmentation and predictive downloading. AppStream is a server technology that is implemented by the owner of the Java applet.
The AppStream Server automatically performs all segmentation. Developers do not have to make any changes to their applications or the way they develop applications. AppStream client installation is seamless, the company says, requiring only a single mouse-click by the user. No plug- ins or special utilities are required. AppStream will be available in July. A free thirty-day trial version of the software is available on AppStream's Web site (www.appstream.com). Pricing starts at $1,000 for a basic version, and goes up to $25,000 for the enterprise version, which has no limit on number of users.
