Cms Ships Pocket-Sized Data Storage And Recovery Solution For Notebooks - CMS Peripherals' ABSplus - Product Announcement
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, July 23, 2001
CMS Peripherals(R) has begun shipping in quantity the ABSplus.
In addition to the sleek design of the new exterior, the ABSplus is the market's first pocket-sized PCMCIA Automatic Backup System (ABS) for notebook computers to include instant Disaster Recovery (DR) software and a removable hard drive. With the addition of the new DR, the ABS' hard drive is made bootable, enabling users to replace their failed notebook hard drive with the ABS hard drive.
Simply power up the notebook, and the user has complete access to all backed up data, files, contact information and applications with minimal downtime.
The first fully self-contained portable backup solution, the ABSplus requires no additional cables, power source, docking station, software or media. The PCMCIA card simply flips out from the underside of the ABSplus and the entire unit plugs directly into the notebook. Ensuring ease-of-use, the ABSplus provides complete, automatic installation upon connection.
A patent-pending automatic launcher initiates a backup of the entire host-drive, including multiple partitions and formats in native file format, without requiring the user to input any software commands. For sharing large files, the ABSplus easily bridges the gap between the desktop, notebook and hand-held PDA using CMS' USB Converter (MSRP $89).
"The original ABS showed the world how easy notebook backup could be," said Ken Burke, president of CMS Peripherals. "Now that we are shipping the ABSplus with instant Disaster Recovery software and a sleek new design to encase a bootable, removable hard drive, we are able to provide users with unprecedented levels of protection for their mobile data.
"It is the only notebook backup and external storage solution on the market to require no additional cables, media or applications to work flawlessly."
Compatible with Windows 95B/98/NT 4.0/Me and 2000, the PCMCIA Automatic Backup System (ABS) Plus with instant disaster recovery is now shipping with a three-year warranty in capacities of 6GB, 10GB, 20GB and 30GB. Pricing starts at $329.00 MSRP. Drivers for USB and Macintosh versions are currently under development.
Solutions are available through major distributors, corporate resellers, mail order and direct from the company's website, www.cmsproducts.com.
