In-System Design Debuts Mobile Data Storage Product Line At Www.Mypakit.Com - Product Announcement

EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, August 14, 2000

PAKit sets new standards in personal data storage capacity in the form of an 11-ounce data storage device measuring roughly 3 x 5 inches. Starting at under $300, PAKit Pro, available from mypakit.com, stores up to 12 Gigabytes (GB) of data and features Universal Serial Bus (USB) plug-and-play, fast transfer rates, and an innovative power management technology that frees end-users from the need for AC converters or power cords.

Along with PAKit Pro, In-System Design (ISD) has also introduced the PAKit Reader, shirt-pocket sized personal data management devices using IBM Microdrives or CompactFlash memory cards. PAKit is ISD's family of consumer products, and leverages the company's USB technology, chip design, and data storage applications.

PAKit Pro and PAKit Reader support Microsoft Windows 98/2000 and MacOS 8.6 and newer operating systems. Both products are USB 1.1 compliant, which offers not only the convenience of plug-and-play but supports data transfer rates that are 4x faster than serial port transfers (up to 900 Kilobytes per second). The PAKit products consume less than 500 mA, and because they are bus-powered (drawing their power through the USB cable), they do not require an external power supply -- which greatly enhances portability and convenience. Both products include software drivers for easy installation on Mac or PC, and can be plugged into a USB port with no rebooting.
