Local Backup Capabilities to Be Available to Dell Customers, Providing Critical Data Protection to Mobile and Remote Users

Altiris, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATRS) has announced that Altiris Recovery Solution has been selected by Dell for integrated delivery of backup and disaster recovery capabilities to Dell customers.

Altiris backup and disaster recovery technology will be available to Dell Precision, Latitude and OptiPlex customers. Local backup to a hidden partition, along with seamless integration with Dell OpenManage Client Administrator (OMCA), provide additional value beyond that found in competitive offerings. Direct integration of Altiris backup and recovery technology with Dell OMCA helps ensure business continuity and helps provide additional cost savings for Dell customers through proactive IT management.

"Our customers have requested efficient and reliable backup and recovery technology to protect their data," said Indraj Gill, worldwide marketing director for Dell OptiPlex. "Altiris Recovery Solution is a critical addition to Dell's systems management portfolio, and will help customers to both improve business continuity and reduce ongoing hardware management costs."

New Altiris Recovery Solution features include the option for disconnected workers to backup to a protected area on a local disk in addition to optional backup to a centralized management server. Automated snapshots can be scheduled to run in the background to provide continual data protection without disrupting end-user productivity. Patented Altiris technology effectively manages backup deltas to minimize CPU, bandwidth and storage requirements.

Poul Nielsen, Altiris VP of marketing and product strategy, said, "We are pleased that Dell has selected Altiris Recovery Solution to extend Dell OpenManage Client Administrator. This integrated offering provides Dell customers with leading backup and disaster recovery technology to offset the continual threat of viruses, theft, hardware and software failure, and human error. With new local-backup capabilities, Altiris and Dell seek to provide IT administrators and end users with a complete backup and recovery solution to address the threat of data loss and help ensure business continuity regardless of connectivity and bandwidth constraints."
