Compaq Offers Discounts On Computers In Mexico - Brief Article

EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Sept 17, 2001

(Reuters) - The Mexican unit of Compaq Computer Corp. said it would cut prices by 10 percent on its Presario line of desktop and laptop computers in a sale from September 14-23, amid a world-wide computer price war.

In a news release, Compaq Computer de Mexico said the promotion would last until supplies ran out.

The computer industry is going through one of its worst contractions ever and market researchers have forecast global drops in PC shipments and sales this year.

Dell Computer Corp., the No. 1 PC maker, has led the industry into an all-out price war, wresting market share from rivals Compaq and Hewlett-Packard Co., who have vowed to compete vigorously with each other even though they are in the process of trying to complete a gigantic merger.
