Nec Integrates Intel Chipset Into Powermate - Product Announcement

NEC has announced a new configuration for its PowerMate(R) CT desktop computer. The new system integrates the Intel(R) 815e chipset in the base system configuration for the PowerMate CT desktop designed to provide customers with a significant increase in functionality and performance.

The PowerMate CT supports 133MHz Synchronous Dynamic RAM, improving overall system throughput performance significantly over the current PC-100 architecture without sacrificing price. The PowerMate CT desktop also integrates support for ATA/100 advanced storage devices, while remaining compatible with many mainstream enterprise storage solutions.

For excellent multimedia performance, the PowerMate CT integrates a single graphics driver featuring full backward compatibility. The new system also includes a built-in four-speed Accelerated Graphics Port for graphic-intensive applications, as well as integrated support for AC97 Soft Audio for surround sound functionality.

Built for deployment in networked environments, the PowerMate CT desktop utilizes the built-in network feature in 815e to provide a cost effective network functionality via an add-on communication and network riser (CNR) card. This new Intel network standard provides an easy-out-of-box connectivity for the networked enterprise. The PowerMate CT desktop allows multiple configurations of USB, LAN and audio on a single card for great flexibility. The system also supports 3Com and Intel 10/100 add-on NIC cards.

Flexibility is critical for IT managers attempting to deploy computers to a variety of corporate environments. The convertible chassis of the PowerMate CT desktop allows the customer to quickly remove the media drives and reposition the computer as a vertically- or horizontally-oriented system. With the variety of environments that can be encountered in an enterprise, the PowerMate CT desktop can quickly be adapted to space configuration.

PowerMate CT desktop pricing begins at $929, and systems will be available in November 2000. The PowerMate CT desktop will be available with many built-to-order configurations, including support for Intel Pentium(R) III or Celeron processors, 20/30/40 GB hard drive choices, and 64MB to 512MB RAM.

NEC PowerMate computers are available with Microsoft Windows(R) 2000 Professional software, the latest Microsoft operating system designed for business users. Built on Windows NT(R) technology and the widely familiar Windows(R) 98 user interface, Windows 2000 Professional software is designed to help business users be more productive through a number of reliability and performance enhancements. It also can help customers leverage the Internet quickly with newly integrated support for Web-enabled applications. NEC desktop PCs are also available with Windows 98 and Windows NT installed.

NEC Computers UltraCare(R) Service offers a standard, three-year limited warranty on parts, labor and technical support. Customers receive the first year of NEC Computers extended service program for on-site service at no additional charge. In the United States and Canada, UltraCare Service includes a toll-free hot line available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to request on-site service.
