Tool Uses Web To Automatically Update Java Applications - THWT Software's JavaRunner - Brief Article - Product Announcement
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Dec 6, 1999
Atlanta-based THWT Software has just released JavaRunner, a development tool that automatically updates Java applications as new versions are released. The product is available at THWT's e-commerce Web site: www.JavaToolShed.com.
"As a company that uses Java development tools on a daily basis, we realize the challenge of keeping applications current," says John Shilling, founder of THWT. "We created JavaRunner to solve the problem of distributing software updates to users of a Java application without the hassle of manually distributing them." When included in an application, JavaRunner automatically checks for a new version of the application on a Web server anywhere on the Internet, Intranet or LAN each time it is started. If a new version is found, it automatically downloads, installs and executes it. JavaRunner even checks for a new version of itself. It works with all components of an application: graphics files, text files, databases, and Java class files.
