Fujitsu Technology Solutions Primepower 850 scores first in 8-way Oracle Applications benchmark
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Dec 16, 2002
Fujitsu Technology Solutions Inc., a member of the worldwide group of Fujitsu companies, recently announced best-in-class results in industry-leading benchmarks on its Primepower 850 SPARC compliant, Solaris compatible servers. Primepower 850 is now the top performing 8-way server running Oracle applications that is currently shipping.
The Primepower 850 recently took first place in the latest Oracle Applications benchmark for 8-way servers with a superior average response time of 1.07 seconds and a top user count of 6272. The user count measures the number of concurrent Oracle applications users that the system can sustain while response times are kept under a pre-defined maximum value. This was the first ERP benchmark in an advanced real-world business environment using Direct Access Files System protocol.
This midrange server offers users higher system performance at a lower cost than comparably featured machines. Because the Primepower 850 can be scaled up to 16 CPUs, customers can realize significant application growth and attain an outstanding price/performance ratio. This produces a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for users.
"The Primepower 850 is available now to customers who need top performance today," said Richard McCormack, vice president of product and solutions marketing for Fujitsu Technology Solutions, Inc. "If IT customers are looking for a midrange server with strong price/performance, and need the product now, Fujitsu offers a very attractive advantage."
The Primepower 850 is ideally suited for database, OLTP, Internet service delivery, and other back-end services applications. It provides enterprise class availability, scalability and reliability. Because Primepower servers run the industry-standard Solaris operating system, users can access more than 15,000 applications.
"We are seeing better Oracle performance since moving the workload to the Primepower servers, and are extremely pleased with both the midrange and enterprise class servers," said Evan Jafa, chief technology officer for First American Real Estate Solutions, the nation's largest real estate information provider. "While First American Real Estate Solutions continues to expand its core business, line of products and growing data center, Fujitsu continues to deliver extremely reliable and scalable solutions."
Both the Primepower 850 and its companion product, the Primepower 650 provide exceptional I/O throughput. There are 40 PCI slots on the 850 (16 on board and 24 in the PCI chassis), and 20 on the 650 (8 on board and 12 in a separate PCI chassis). The extremely flexible set of configuration opportunities is ideal for either data center-based server installations or Oracle database computing.
Fujitsu's Primepower 650 has also secured many industry-leading benchmark results. The Primepower 650 is a high-performance server with up to 8 processors, boasting best-in-class scalability and performance availability for the Solaris midrange server class.
The Primepower 850 is priced at $135,400 for an 8-way with 16GB of memory, and $194,600 for a 12-way with 24 GB of memory.
