NTS deploys Copper Mountain's VantEdge 3000
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Dec 16, 2002
Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMTN), a provider of intelligent broadband access solutions, has announced that NTS, one of the largest privately owned long distance companies in the nation and the largest CLEC and data services provider in West Texas, has deployed the VantEdge 3000 into its extensive local exchange network.
Two years ago NTS standardized on Copper Mountain's CopperEdge platform and deployed it throughout the Southwest to provision DSL and T1 services to residential and business customers. More recently, NTS has deployed the VantEdge as a high-density ADSL platform.
NTS also intends to use the VantEdge to aggregate central office-based DSLAMs and implement a broad set of subscriber and service delivery features within the VantEdge to cost-effectively enable a wide range of consumer and business broadband services.
"Copper Mountain has proven its reputation for carrier class products and support at NTS," said Brad Worthington, COO at NTS. "We offer a full range of retail and wholesale broadband access products, and as we prepared to increase our network performance and expand our service capabilities, the VantEdge was the logical choice. The VantEdge's unique combination of performance, flexibility and multi-layer networking capabilities--specifically designed for the central office--was the ideal evolution path for our broadband network."
The VantEdge is the industry's first carrier-class platform purpose built for the central office (CO) to address broadband service providers' two most critical issues--scalability and profitability. It supports multi-layer CO intelligence--CO IQ--that enables copper-based broadband providers to slash costs associated with scaling their networks while simultaneously enabling the low-cost delivery of value-added services such as virtual private networks (VPNs), toll-quality voice, multi-tiered data and gaming services, and video. The VantEdge is a flexible platform--optimized for both aggregation and subscriber termination--offering service providers rapid payback, typically less than twelve months.
"NTS has a strong commitment to deliver high quality communications products," said Rick Gilbert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Copper Mountain Networks. "We are extremely pleased to have NTS as a customer, and very excited to see them select the VantEdge and embrace an intelligent central office architecture to expand their broadband service capabilities."
