Mcafee.Com To Offer Netzip's Download Demon Service To Online Buyers - Network Associates ESD - Company Business and Marketing

EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Dec 27, 1999

Tool Simplifies Downloads For Buyers, Includes Advertising Capabilities For Sellers

Network Associates' McAfee.com ESD business has selected Netzip Download Demon to improve software downloads from its popular website. Download Demon's technology greatly enhances the sometimes tricky download process, while its advertising capabilities allow McAfee.com to deliver product information, customer service information and company news to users while they download.

The optional service will enable McAfee.com users to download using pause, resume and reconnect features that facilitate successful downloads on the first attempt. Upon download completion, Download Demon helps users install, save or move a downloaded file within the application. The features are designed to improve the download process and help users to conserve bandwidth resources by reducing the number of repeated download attempts.

"Download Demon is a great tool for PC users to assist in optimizing their software downloads over the Internet," says Jeff Platon, vice president of business development at McAfee.com. "The addition of Download Demon to our Internet-based services enables us to better serve our Internet savvy users and to differentiate ourselves from the competition."

Download Demon will also provide a new advertising revenue stream for McAfee.com. As users download from its website, McAfee.com can deliver content, including product information, third party advertising, special offers, etc. through a window that appears on the user's desktop while a download is in progress. The HTML-based window can be minimized or closed at any time during a download.
