EDS US Government Solutions earns CMMI Level 3 assessment
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Dec 23, 2002
Certification Gives EDS Delivery Team a Competitive Advantage To Build Business and Opportunities Within the Government Market Space
EDS has announced its U.S. Government Solutions--Transportation and Management Systems (TMS) organization was assessed at Level 3 of the Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model Integrated (SEI CMM[i.sup.SM]). The assessment was performed after the EDS team aligned the organization's existing SW CM[M.sup.SM] Level II and ISO9001:2000 processes and to leverage the EDS enterprise corporate process set, Global Solution Management System.
The Transportation and Management Systems team uses CMM[i.sup.SM] in conjunction with ISO 9000 quality models to deliver services and products to the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Department of Interior (DOI) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The value of the CMM[i.sup.SM] model is the unification of both Software Development and Systems Engineering processes. This unified approach allows the team to work with clients consistently to deliver high quality services, engineering, and products by leveraging the best of the EDS service based culture.
"The credit goes to a team of 108 people who contributed to the effort," said Keith Blodgett, Client Delivery Executive for the organization. "Our team focused on doing what made common sense. We re-engineered the organization to be more efficient and effective in its day-to-day delivery, which has become our foundation for success and added value to our clients."
The appraisal was performed by an SEI authorized lead appraiser, from the Software Productivity Consortium (SPC), who assessed that the TMS team met Capability Level 3 rating for maturity using the Continuous Representation for Systems Engineering and Software Development version 1.02, October 1, 2001.
EDS is one of the first commercial organizations to have reached this level of CMMi maturity. It affords the TMS delivery team the position of being the early adopter of this unique Software Development and System Engineering process capability to provide innovative solutions to it's clients and partners within the government market space.
