Work to Focus on Upgrading Legacy Mainframe Systems to Web-Enabled IT Environment

FAIRFAX, Va., February 5, 2002 - SIGNAL Corporation has been awarded a 5-year contract, valued at $14 million, to provide software lifecycle support for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration(FMCSA), which is one of nine administrations within the U.S. Department of Transportation. FMCSA is dedicated to improving truck and bus safety on the nation's highways.

SIGNAL's primary work will be to migrate FMCSA's computer systems from a mainframe environment to a web-enabled, client-server environment. This migration will better enable the collection, storage and analysis of data, including information and statistics ranging from compliance reviews and roadside inspections to traffic enforcement and truck/bus crash statistics and fatalities. SIGNAL will also provide additional software support throughout the duration of the contract.

"SIGNAL is dedicated to helping government agencies harness the power of IT to operate more efficiently," said Roger Mody, SIGNAL president and CEO. "We are excited to be working as a partner with FMCSA to bring higher levels of technical innovation to their business."

FMCSA was established within the U.S. Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000 pursuant to the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of1999.

SIGNAL was awarded the contract through the GSA schedule. Work under this new contract begins in February 2002.
