Re-compete Award Provides for a 5-year Period of Performance, an Initial$2.2 Million Dollars for 2003, and Four Additional Option Years
OPNET, Inc., a provider of Intelligent Network Management software, recently announced that OPNET Analysis, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary, has been awarded a re-competed contract to enhance the U.S. Department of Defense's Network Warfare Simulation (NETWARS), a software application for analyzing defense-related network communications.
The terms of the new contract include OPNET software and services to be delivered in phases, with initial funding of $2.2M for 2003, and a four-year extension to be evaluated annually by the Department of Defense. This announcement follows OPNET's delivery of software and services as prime contractor for NETWARS in 2002.
The NETWARS project is part of the Department of Defense's vision for achieving information superiority by optimizing military communications in realistic warfighter scenarios. The objectives for the NETWARS software environment include simulating major theaters of war involving thousands of communications nodes, conducting communications burden analysis, contingency planning analysis, and evaluating emerging technologies in full Joint Task Force warfighting scenarios.
OPNET's Chairman & CEO, Marc Cohen, stated, "We are extremely pleased to have been selected as the prime contractor for NETWARS. Communications and distributed information systems are increasingly vital to the defense community. The fact that OPNET was selected again for NETWARS, this time for up to five years, demonstrates the government's confidence in us. We believe that OPNET technology and expertise are broadly applicable to the defense market, a market in which we intend to expand our presence."
Founded in 1986, OPNET Technologies, Inc. is a provider of Intelligent Network Management software. OPNET's technology has been applied extensively to simulation, analysis, and planning for the defense community.
