AMD's specification for open platform management architecture supported by Raritan Computer
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Feb 28, 2005
Raritan Computer Inc.,a provider of solutions for managing IT infrastructure equipment and the mission-critical applications and services that run on it--today announced its support for the Open Platform Management Architecture (OPMA) specification. AMD (NYSE:AMD) developed the specification in collaboration with industry partners, including Raritan Computer, to enable hardware vendors to connect several different management subsystems to a common hardware interface within a server platform.
The specification is designed to benefit server OEMs and motherboard manufacturers by providing a common interface standard for embedded system management that helps reduce platform development risk, cost, and time to market. In turn, these benefits translate into more cost-effective and powerful solutions for enterprise IT organizations.
Raritan Computer and its OEM business unit, Peppercon AG--which develops embedded KVM-over-IP modules and subsystems for remote server management--were leading partners in the development of the OPMA specification. In addition, Peppercon is delivering an OPMA-compliant KVM-over-IP embedded solution to the OEM server market.
"Raritan Computer is pleased to have worked with AMD in developing the OPMA specification, which will significantly benefit the industry," said Marc Schweig, vice president of Strategy and Business Development at Raritan Computer. "The specification will help improve the manageability of enterprise servers, which translates into better performance and reduced total cost of ownership for enterprise IT organizations."
"The development of the OPMA specification is an example of how leading industry players, such as Raritan Computer, can collaborate to create innovative solutions based on customer needs," said Marty Seyer, corporate vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, Computation Products Group, AMD. "Raritan's knowledge and expertise in the areas of remote management and subsystems contributed to the successful development of the OPMA specification."
