Fujitsu launches high-performance optical disk reader for DICOM image viewing
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, March 1, 2004
Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a provider of removable storage solutions, today unveiled its high-performance optical disk DICOM image viewing solution, the DynaMO 1300 Pocket with DICOM Viewer. The solution bundles an ultra-portable, high-performance Fujitsu 1.3GB Magneto-Optical (MO) drive with DICOM image viewing software. Fujitsu will demonstrate how ultrasound and healthcare professionals can easily transport DICOM images and data on 3.5-inch MO disks (MODs) from medical imaging equipment to notebook PCs and workstations for convenient offline review at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2004 Conference and Exhibition, February 22-26 in Orlando, Florida.
The Fujitsu DynaMO 1300 Pocket drive is 15oz light and 23mm thin, making the drive ideal for any ultrasound and medical imaging practitioner. Power is supplied directly through its Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, eliminating the need for an AC adapter. The DynaMO 1300 Pocket drive stores and retrieves data from the same robust 3.5-inch MODs that doctors and hospital administrators have relied on for more than 10 years to store and transport ultrasound images.
"The 1.3GB DynaMO 1300 Pocket with DICOM Viewer is Fujitsu's next-generation DICOM image transportation and viewing solution for the ultrasound market," said Dan Dalton, director, optical products at Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "Fujitsu MO technology, already trusted throughout the medical imaging and ultrasound communities for its durability and ease-of-use, now brings users even more freedom and flexibility with a 1.3GB capacity point and faster data transfer speeds."
Historically, when healthcare practitioners needed to view ultrasound images stored on an MOD, they were required to return to the ultrasound machine or PACS review station. Medical imaging professionals and hospital administrators can now use the DynaMO 1300 Pocket with DICOM Viewer to conveniently view DICOM images at their desk or away from the medical facility.
ShowCase(R) Viewer software from Trillium Technology is included to interpret DICOM images stored on 3.5-inch MODs for display on notebook PCs and workstations. In addition, users will have the option to upgrade to Power ShowCase software at a substantial discount. Power ShowCase provides a suite of image editing tools that enable HIPAA supported image de-identification, easy conversion of DICOM images to popular JPEG, BPM, TIFF and AVI file formats, and the ability to edit images and play video clips directly in PowerPoint(R) using Microsoft's ActiveX(R) technology.
The DynaMO 1300 Pocket drive is fully backwards compatible with earlier 640, 540, 230, and 128MB 3.5-inch MODs. Fujitsu 3.5-inch MODs protect critical data from shock, vibration, moisture, dust and magnetic fields, and provide greater than 50-year archival life at less than a penny per megabyte.
