Golf, American style : St. Andrews Bay makes its debut - St. Andrews Bay Resort: luxurious accommodations for golf in Scotland - Brief Article

Golf Digest,  Oct, 2001

Tdraditionally, a golf trip to Scotland has been a compromise: the good kind of "olde" on the courses, but the bad kind (tiny mattresses, sketchy plumbing, indifferent food) back at the hotel.

But for those who long for luxury more than the charm of a 300-year-old hotel room, the folks at Chateau Elan are hoping their new St. Andrews Bay Resort answers the call for better accommodations in Scotland.

A clone of the Chateau Elan property near Atlanta, St. Andrews Bay has American hotel luxury on the inside and great golf on the outside. Rooms start at about $180, and top-end suites ($550) are so big that they have two bathrooms. And each room has views of the town of St. Andrews and the coastline that is being morphed into 36 holes. The first 18, roughed out by the late Gene Sarazen and completed by Sam Torrance, has a rolling, American feel.
