Best putter wins

Golf Digest, April, 2004 by Johnny Miller, Guy Yocom

The lengthening of Augusta National has made it a better, more balanced test. Still, there's a bit too much emphasis on putting. The player who putts well has a tremendous advantage, more so than at the other majors. I always believed (as did Ben Hogan) that putting should never supersede ball-striking in terms of the game's basic makeup, but that certainly has been the case at the Masters.
