The Biker

Golf Digest, March, 2002 by Davis Love III

My brother-in-law was looking at a Harley-Davidson catalog about 10 years ago and I said to myself, "Man, I've got to get one of those." I'd seen Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Terminator 2" riding a black Fat Boy, which I eventually bought, but I really had no idea what I was getting into. Those bikes are big.

I ended up keeping the Fat Boy for a long time, then bought a 2000 Road King, which is more of a touring bike. In Las Vegas last fall, I got a Bourgets, a street bike with a raked-out front end like the one Dennis Hopper had in "Easy Rider." Riding is a blast, just pure fun, but it also gives you time to be alone and think. When we have people over to the house, the first thing a lot of them say is, "Hey, take me for a ride." Problem is, my bikes are pretty loud, and my mom lives right next door to my brother, who I do a lot of riding with. There's something funny about that--two grown men worrying what their mother thinks of them riding motorcycles. But I'm into it way too much to stop now.
