Tree + fairway = terrible hole design

Golf Digest, March, 2004

Spyglass Hill, one of the courses played during the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, is a great track. But the par-4 10th hole (below) has a glaring design flaw. On the left side of the fairway is a huge tree, one that comes into play even if you avoid the rough.

I don't know about you, but I've always thought that If you drive the ball in the fairway, the second shot should be unobstructed. The green can be protected by as much water and sand as the designer wants, but the fairway should be devoid of trouble.
