Judging wind goes high tech

Golf Digest, April, 2001 by Peter Farricker

Tired of guessing what the wind is doing at that devious little par 3 you always seem to bogey? Consider carrying the latest high-tech, pocket-size weapon in the war against uncertainty--Minox' new Windwatch Pro, a digital gadget that provides information on wind velocity, temperature and wind chill at the push of a button.

Additional features include a barometer, altimeter and digital clock. You can also store wind speed, temperature and air pressure over a set period of time--18 holes, for instance--to assess and predict weather changes, like an approaching thunderstorm.

The unit, illegal for tournament play or scores for handicapping, weighs 1.6 ounces and is waterproof to 16 feet.

Where to get it: For more on the Windwatch Pro ($169), visit www.minox.com.
