Leaders in the clubhouse - Brief Article

Golf Digest, August, 2000

Jayme Berkowitz
Brookings, Ore.

The big-hitting 17-year-old finished his high school career with a bang. First he shot a course-record 64 at Bandon Dunes Golf Club (including a 27 on a back nine that featured one eagle and seven birdies). Then he shot 67-68 to win the state high school championship. His stroke average for the 15-round season: 70.4.

Treas Nelson
Lawton, Okla.

The Lawton Eisenhower junior shot 73-73 at the par-70 Kickingbird Golf Club in Edmond to capture the state 5-A girls championship. Nelson, 16, is the school's first state golf champion and the first African-American to claim a title in the state high school tourney.

David Graciano
Fox Chapel, Pa.

Playing at Churchill Valley Country Club in Pittsburgh, the 3-handicapper aced the 156-yard par-3 third for the sixth hole-in-one of his career. The other perfect shot of his day came when Graciano holed a 4-iron off a sidehill lie on the 500-yard ninth for a double eagle-the third of his career.
