The four warning signs for melanoma are known as the ABCDs: (A) Asymmetry, when one half of a blemish does not match the other; (B) Border irregularity, with ragged, notched or blurred edges; (C) Color variation, when the color of a spot is not uniform and may contain shades of brown and black or dashes of red, white and blue; (D) Diameter greater than a pencil eraser.
