Q&A with Nobby Orens : Golf Nut of the Year - Brief Article - Interview

Golf Digest, August, 2000

Nobby Orens (right), a 62-year-old 16-handicapper and owner of Plaza Travel in Encino, Calif., knows all about golf and travel. He is last year's official Golf Nut of the Year (for details go to www.golfnutssociety.com). His doormat reads: "A golfer and a normal person live here."

What's the craziest trip you've ever made?

"Thanks to the Concorde, I played 18 holes in London, 18 holes in New York and 18 holes in a suburb of Los Angeles, all on the same day."

What are your best travel tips for golfers?

"Get a travel bag with wheels. Pack towels around your clubheads for protection. Pack your cap, shoes, balls and glove in your carry-on, in case your clubs get lost (keep receipts for what you have to rent or buy and get reimbursed from the airline)."

What's been your best ever golf trip, and your worst?

"My best ever was in November 1996 when the Four Seasons Hualalai opened in Hawaii. Some of my favorite courses in the world are on the Big Island of Hawaii. I don't have a worst golf trip. There are no bad ones."
