Dollars and cents

Golf Digest, Sept, 2003

We've told you who America's best teachers are. But how much is a lesson with one of them going to cost you? Depends. Of the teachers who comprise our 50 Greatest and Best in State lists, lesson rates range from $35 to $5,000 (that's for a morning session with David Leadbetter ... he'll have to bump Ernie Els to fit you in).

Regionally, the least expensive place to take a lesson is the north central U.S.--Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Montana and North and South Dakota. Top teachers there generally charge $50 to $100 an hour, about a third as much as prominent instructors who work in Florida, California and Arizona.
