Golf Digest, Sept, 2003
The last golfer to win anything wearing a suit and tie was Harry Vardon, right? So what does business attire have to do with golf? Well, almost every golfer owns a suit, and weekday golf often starts with the player in a business suit slipping out for an afternoon round. Mr. Style offers monthly advice for what to wear on the course, but here he shows you how to navigate from the boardroom to the locker room. Whether you travel by helicopter, sports car, private plane or motorcycle sidecar, Mr. Style will get you to the course looking good.
Tiki Barber
New York Giants running back
Discovered golf with twin brother Ronde when both were seniors at the University of Virginia. "Ronde got drafted by Tampa Bay, and now he's a 5-handicapper living on a course in Florida. And me? I'm in New York and still trying to break 90 for the first time."
Peter Gallagher actor
Best known for performances in "While You Were Sleeping," "American Beauty" and the new Fox TV series "The OC," Gallagher has twice played in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and made a hole-in-one at Bryant Gumbel's celebrity tournament in 2000. "Jack Lemmon, who was a dear friend, gave me my first set of clubs." Today, Gallagher is a 7-handicapper.
Dean Cain actor
His affection for golf was born at a reunion of fellow Princeton University football players a few years ago. The former Superman from "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" only wishes he'd started earlier. "I used to watch golf to fall asleep, but now I see it in a whole different light." His film with Denzel Washington, called "Out of Time," hits theaters in October.

Pat O'Brien co-anchor of "Access Hollywood"
The pace of hosting a daily entertainment news show doesn't leave much time for O'Brien to get his handicap below "about a 20." As he likes to say, "No father of the year has ever been a great golfer."

Alexei Kovalev
New York Rangers right wing As a kid growing up in Russia, Kovalev knew nothing about golf. Today he's a 3-handicapper with visions of playing professionally after his hockey career ends. "It sounds funny, but golf has made me a better hockey player more than playing hockey has made me a good golfer. The patience I've learned from golf has helped me hang in there when my shots early in a game aren't going in the net."
Dean Cain
"I'm very competitive. All I need is a little more time, and I could be pretty good at this game."
Lokelani McMichael
triathlete
Family get-togethers on the family's two-acre lot in Kona, Hawaii, usually include a round of "bamboo golf" on the five-hole course her father built. "The flagsticks are made of bamboo, and it's kind of like playing golf in a rain forest," she says.
Dara Torres Olympic gold medalist
She won nine medals (four gold) while swimming in four Summer Olympics, but now Torres is hooked on golf. A feature reporter for USA Network's "PGA Tour Sunday" show, Torres took up the game only a year ago. She shot 100 in her first 18-hole round this year. "Happy with 100? Actually, it ticked me off. I thought it was too high."
Michael Waltrip Daytona 500 champion (2001, 2003)
Waltrip has taken golf lessons from Butch Harmon and Peter Kostis, and in the past year has played Augusta National, Pebble Beach and Cypress Point. "It's amazing that I could care so much about this game, respect and appreciate it as much as I do, yet be so bad at it."
