Chairman Hal Stratton was a prime mover in the implementation of a new federal web site, www.Recalls.gov that was launched in late November - Briefly Noted - Brief Article

CPSC Monitor, Jan, 2004

Chairman Hal Stratton was a prime mover in the implementation of a new federal web site, www.Recalls.gov that was launched in late November. The new site is a "one-stop shop" for consumers to access all recalls from several federal agencies.

The agencies include CPSC, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Stratton praised the effort, releasing a statement on Christmas Eve calling on consumers to check the site before buying or giving a gift to be sure it does not pose a hazard. Industry groups, including Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, and independent groups such as Underwriters' Laboratories and the National Safe Kids Campaign, sponsor the site.
