A lecture by best-selling author Jonathan Kozol will kick off the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education's 53rd annual meeting, March 1-4 in Dallas. Kozol has devoted three decades to issues of education and social justice in America. Other speakers include Jacqueline Jordan Irvine, Candler professor of urban education, Emory University; and Valerie Ooka Pang, professor, school of teacher education, San Diego State University. Participants will explore the importance of preparing teachers and administrators to help children succeed in life.
Some of the major forums include Technology in Education: Promise vs. Reality; The Education Industry: For Profits and Virtual Environments; and Accountability Now and In the Future: A Report from the AACTE Focus Council on Accountability.
The AACTE meeting also provides an opportunity to explore Dallas. On Friday attendees can visit the Southfork Ranch, the 41-acre homestead of the fictional Ewing family. And on Saturday, there will be a special Grand Tour of Dallas that takes conference-goers to many sites including the Lone Star's Romanesque Courthouse, Highland Park (known as the Beverly Hills of Dallas), and the Sixth Floor Museum.

E-Learning: Enhancing Education In and Out of the Classroom" is the theme for the North East Regional Computing Program's annual conference March 18-20 in Worcester, Mass. NERCOMP will feature presentations, discussions, and workshops centered on the challenges facing information technology practitioners on campus. Austin, Texas is the site of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development's 23rd annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence. The event, which takes place May 27-30, will provide opportunities to learn about career development, teaching and learning, leadership development, and "teamship" development while enjoying the spirit of Austin.
