Victoria Valle has been named dean of admission at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill. She will serve as one of five area heads and as a member of the President's Council. She also will oversee the undergraduate and graduate admission staffs and the financial aid staff. Most recently, Valle was director of undergraduate admission at Loyola University, Chicago, Ill. She serves on the selection committee for the National Merit Scholarship program, the College and University Admission Advisory Committee of U.S. News and World Report, and the executive board of the National Association for College Admission Counselors. Valle earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and her master's degree in management from Webster University, St. Louis, Mo.

Richard Lloyd, associate professor of English at Hastings College, has been appointed academic dean. He will replace Dwayne Strasheim, who, after 17 years, announced that he would step down from his administrative position to return to full-time teaching. A Hastings native and graduate of Hastings, Lloyd earned a master's degree from Emporia State University, Kan., and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Moustafa H. Abdelsamad, dean of the College of Business at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas received the 2000 Taylor Key Award. The Taylor Key Award honors outstanding contributions to the advancement of the art and science of management. Abdelsamad was honored for displaying management objectives and principles reflecting a logical, orderly, and analytical viewpoint. Abdelsamad has been dean since 1991. He is the president of The Society for Advancement of Management and Editor-in-Chief of the SAM Advanced Management Journal.

Long Beach City College in California announced that Superintendent-President E. Jan Kehoe was one of two administrators to receive the Harry Buttimer Distinguished Administrator Award, the highest honor awarded by The Association of California Community College Administrators. James Walker, chancellor, Ventura Community College District, also received the award. The Buttimer Award was established in 1986 to honor the memory of the late Harry Buttimer, who 25 years ago, helped convene a small group of administrators determined to have an impact on the future of community college administration.

Hans Houshower, director of technology at Bluffton College in Ohio was named as one of eight international recipients of the 2000 Jane N. Ryland Fellowship Program by EDUCAUSE, an association for higher-education information technology. The fellowships are given to enhance professional development opportunities for people who work with information resources in higher education. They recognize a combination of past achievement, commitment, potential benefit, and financial need. Houshower earned his Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Washington, Seattle.

He has been director of technology at BC since last year.

Phillip Dudley has been named the 14th president of Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. Dudley, who served as vice president from 1978 to 2000, has taught economics at Hastings College since 1973. He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics, business, and economics from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., his master's degree in economics from Wichita State University, Kan., and his doctorate in economics from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
