Network ICE, a provider of enterprise and consumer turnkey intrusion protection and security policy management solutions, has partnered with Georgia State University to protect students and faculty from cyber-crime. The agreement gives all students, faculty members, and employees of the university access to a customized version of BlackICE Defender, a personal firewall that stops hackers from compromising connected PC and laptops in real time.

"It was critical that we have a security solution that protects academic freedom for the campus community," Bill Paraska, director of university computing and communications, said.

Greg Gilliom, chief executive officer of Network Ice, said that many people are surprised to learn that hackers would target their systems simply because they are connected to the Internet.

"This was the case with the Georgia State community," he said. "BlackICE gave them a look at the level of hacking against their systems. ,It really opened their eyes."
