Matrix: The Magazine for Leaders in Education, Oct, 2000
After more than a year of preliminary studies, Furman University, Greenville, S.C., and The Kendal Corp. of Kennett Square, Pa., announced that they will move ahead with plans to build a continuing care retirement community near the Furman campus.
Kendal at Furman will feature approximately 200 independent living residences and be located on 40 acres of university property near the Furman Golf Course. While the retirement community won't be located on the main part of the campus, it will be close enough that residents can take full advantage of Furman's many academic, cultural, and recreational offerings.
Kendal at Furman is expected to open in 2004. The retirement center will also house Furman's Child Development Center and host some of the Furman University Learning in Retirement classes.
The retirement community will be owned, developed, and marketed by Kendal at Furman, Inc., a nonprofit corporation formed in cooperation with Furman and The Kendal Corp. Furman will lease the property to the community.
