Art Business News, Oct, 2004

SOUTH HADLEY, MA--Artist Douglas Miles has been named the Masters' Circle Distinguished Art Educator by Canson Inc., importers of Arches fine art papers and watercolor brushes. The committee looks for those artists who combine innovative artwork along with educating the community about art.

"Through [Miles'] dedication to his community, he helps young people learn about the creation of art and the business of art, all while having fun," says Jeffrey Neumann, product manager.

Miles blends his Apache heritage with modern-day, contemporary influences, and has gained increased recognition for his painting of skateboards. He has turned skateboard decks into an art form, appealing to art enthusiasts.

"I like that my art is helping create a resurgence in skating" says Miles. "It's fun, it's good exercise, and it helps the kids make smarter lifestyle choices."
