NEW YORK -- In September, The Animazing Gallery in SOHO had a sale and exhibition, "Superheroes of the 20th Century," showcasing six exclusive pieces by the comic book artist Alex Ross, with the comic book Hall of Famer Joseph Giella as the guest of honor. Ross, the cover artist for several hundred DC Comics, illustrated the opening sequence of the "Spider-Man 2" movie and created a limited edition promotional poster for the 2002 Academy Awards.
Giella, who began his career with DC Comics in the 1950s by drawing all the superheroes, including The Flash, The Green Lantern, Batman and Superman, was present to meet and greet customers while handing out original pen-and-ink drawings as a gift with each purchase. Giella has been writing the Mary Worth newspaper strip for the past 12 years and currently is doing freelance work for DC Comics.
