Art Business News, Nov, 2000
PHILADELPHIA--For the 24th year, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show returns to the Pennsylvania Convention Center Nov. 9-12. A panel of experts in varied fields of art have selected 195 craft artists, including 60 who've never previously exhibited in the Craft Show, from a field of more than 1,400 applicants.
Craft categories included in the show are: basketry, ceramics, decorative fiber, wearable fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper and wood. One-of-a-kind limited-edition objects featured in this year's show range from broaches, hand-painted silk scarves, handmade felt hats and sterling silver bookmarks to ceramics, baskets woven with recycled materials, architectural birdhouses, bent-willow rocking chairs and Adirondack guide boats.
A highlight of this year's show will be "Whimsey and Wonder: Toys as an Art," a special installation of playful items created by Craft Show artists. Returning is "Living with Crafts," an exhibit featuring room settings furnished with works by artist in the show. For information, go to www.libertynet.org/~pmacraft/.
