Affordable Art Fair Makes Debut in Big Apple

NEW YORK--The Affordable Art Fair (AAF), Britain's largest contemporary art fair, makes its American debut this month at Pier 92 in New York. Featuring more than 90 U.S. and European galleries, the fair strives to be an accessible venue to a wide array of visitors, especially younger collectors in their 20s, 30s and 40s. All works on view, ranging from contemporary paintings and drawings to sculptures and prints, are priced under $5,000 and are originals.

Founder and Director Will Ramsay created London's AAF in 1999 after opening a commercial gallery in London. The show's first year attracted 10,000 visitors and 94 exhibiting galleries, while the year 2000 attracted 20,000 visitors and 135 exhibitors. Among the exhibiting galleries at this year's AAF in New York are Caren Golden Fine Art of New York, Hal Katzen Gallery of New York, EVO Gallery of Santa Fe and Enid Lawson Gallery in London. Printmaking and sculpture demonstrations will take place during the fair, and guided tours and a free lecture series will be offered.

A Gala Preview benefitting Manhattan's downtown non-profit arts organizations will be held Wed., Oct. 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. Fair hours are Thurs., Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fri., Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sun., Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors, and free for children under 16.
