NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Timothy McAlevey has founded a new art publishing company called ARTCEPS, which focuses on emerging California artists. The company's first catalog edition is now available.
"One of the main reasons I started this company was because over the last 10 years I have seen an onslaught of hand-painted artwork coming from the Asian market, selling for high prices, with no intrinsic collectable value," said McAlevey. "We have so many talented artists working in California ... who are excited about the possibility of having their work seen and appreciated."
The artists featured in ARTCEPS' first-edition catalog are William Blackman, Marina and Chris Cavette, Valeries Gruzen, Claire Ouimet, Dreama Tolle Perry, John Robertson, Taffy Sandow, Richard Schloss, Seraphine, Fredrick Spurgeon and Pam Wall. "Each of the artists included in this initial catalog has enjoyed success at the gallery level and at art shows, but never had their pieces been seen by a wider audience," said McAlevey.
In addition to representing these 12 previously unpublished artists, ARTCEPS is also offering rarely seen works from the Pre-Raphaelite/ Victorian era with the cooperation of the Mike Kelley Gallery in Pasadena, Calif. Artists in this collection include John William Waterhouse, Fredrich Stuart Church and Victor Gilbert.
McAlevey has also accumulated examples of late 1800s Western art by masters such as Charles Marion Russell, Joseph Henry Sharp, Olaf Carl Seltzer and Charles Craig.
"These artists are extremely important, and having an opportunity to publish images never seen before is an exciting part of my first catalog," said McAlevey.
Each reproduction is printed on canvas with archival inks and protected with a UV coating. Every piece comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The company's first catalog is focused on traditional artwork, while the second edition, to be released in the spring of 2004, will contain contemporary subject matter.
