Exhibit commemorates the institute's reopening

Art Business News,  Dec, 2005

FLINT, MI -- After the completion of its $12.6-million renovation project and the reopening in late September, The Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) is celebrating with the exhibition, "Andy Warhol, A to Z: A Retrospective of the Work of the Master of Pop Art," through Dec. 31. The FIA's renovation and expansion was aimed to provide more efficient use of existing spaces to improve collection storage conditions, administrative functions and public spaces, and an expansion of the Art School. As the first presentation in the new facility, the exhibit takes a look into Warhors career from the 1950s through the time of his death in 1987, including paintings, works on paper, three-dimensional objects, film and video, as well as recordings of Warhol's telephone conversations.

The majority of the works are from the permanent collection of The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and include paintings, such as "Cambell's Soup Can" (1962); "Grace Jones" (1986); "Self-Portrait" (1986); and screen prints, including "Electric Chair" (1971); "Marilyn" (1967); as well as the acrylic and silkscreen on wood, "Brillo Box."

Sponsored by Target Corporation, the exhibit will be free on each Saturday throughout the duration of the event.
