Meanwhile, top lot at Christie's recent Latin American sale was Rufino Tamayo's 1942 "Bailarinas," fetching $889,500 (est. $800 to $1,000,000). Over at Sotheby's sale of Latin American art including property from the estate of Stanley Marcus, top lot was Claudio Bravo's 1967 oil on canvas, "Paquete Marfil," which sold for $1.4 million (est.
$900,000 to $1.1 million). Also of note was Alfredo Ramos Martinez's "Casamiento indio", ca. 1934, which sold for $405,500 (est. $125,000 to $175,000).
