Let ABN be a part of your resolutions

Art Business News, Jan, 2005 by Susanne Casgar

Many of us are in the habit of making New Year's resolutions. But if you're like me, you find yourself transferring them from one year to the next in your Filofax. I have many resolutions that I still haven't done. Of course, one of the resolutions is to put thousands of loose photos in albums ... and when would I find time to do that!

If one of your resolutions is to improve your company's marketing plan in 2005, I encourage you to look at the various departments available to you in Art Business News.

* New Editions ... the latest, most exciting releases from artists, publishers and galleries.

* Originals ... our forum for selecting the latest and most exciting originals in all mediums.

* Emerging Artists.... showcasing artists whose work has not been published by a major distributor. All of these options are available to you, and here are some things to keep in mind when you send your submissions to us.

When you send a digital file, make sure that you show the title of the piece with the digital image, (which should be 300 dpi, and approximately 3 x 4 inches in size.) The text should include the name of the artist, the name of the image, the medium, the size of the edition, the size of the image, the price, and all of your contact information (phone number, e-mail address and Web site.)

If you are sending slides, CDs or transparencies, mark those clearly with all of your contact information, as well as the name of the image, and where you are directing it ... whether it be to New Editions or Originals. Please send a cover letter or note with it with all of your contact information, so if we need to call you, we can, and so that we can properly direct the materials.

For those of you submitting work for Emerging Artists, please include a short biography and an artist statement with your submission, with all of the information listed above for the text.

We want you to increase your success and profitability in 2005. Learning how to take full advantage of all the editorial opportunities that YOUR magazine provides is a sound business strategy. If you have comments or questions, let me know.

I will look forward to hearing from you.

All the best.
