CORNELIUS, Ore. -- Air Art Northwest, a dealer and publisher of historical fine art, has released a new limited-edition print that pays tribute to a valiant but unrecognized ally of the United States in World War II. The print, titled "Strike of the Axtec Eagles," by Jack Fellows is about an elite unit of young Mexican fighter pilots who flew with the American air force during the war and whose participation led to better relations between the United States and Mexico.
The image depicts two P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft of the Fighter Squadron 201 of the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force in action in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. Each print in the edition has been autographed by the surviving pilots who flew combat missions with the Squadron and is also signed and numbered by the artist.
