A freshman art student at the School of Visual Arts found himself in jail for a night when his art project, 37 black boxes with the word "Fear" on them that he scattered throughout the Union Square subway station, spread panic of a terrorist attack and caused the police to shut down the station for hours and call in the bomb squad.
While the 25-year old-artist hoped his project would get people talking, he apparently didn't realize the gravity of placing unidentified objects with threatening undertones in a public space. The district attorney's office plans to charge him with reckless endangerment.
