Prestigious college museum goes online

NEW HAVEN, CT -- The Yale University Art Gallery launches, www.artgallery.yale.edu, an innovative Web site that is based on its distinguished international collection.

The site includes more than 300 works that are highlighted with large illustrations and informative texts. The site also contains an online magazine entitled, What Is Art and Why Does It Matter? This magazine gives visitors a chance to learn about the collection and the people who care for it. It offers a range of interactive areas, such as "Questions and Controversies," which features answers by three artists to thought provoking questions; "Focus On" which takes a single work and examines it; and "Perspectives" which releases graduate-student research on the collection.

The site also contains a calendar of events, and information on exhibitions and programs. In addition, a collections database will be added this month.
