LOS ANGELES -- Painter Tim Rogerson has captured the many colorful moods of jazz in a new quintet of paintings for Collectors Editions. All images will be featured as hand-embellished giclees on canvas in a limited edition of 95. All pieces are signed and numbered by the artist.
"I basically have two loves in life: music and art," says Rogerson. "I can't paint without music. In these paintings, I'm able to combine my love of art and music onto a blank canvas. I chose jazz because it gave me freedom to do anything. It allows me to go crazy with color and line. Jazz has no rules and it's all about expressing yourself. It's like a candy store for an artist's imagination."
Rogerson's father is a musician and music was always a part of the Rogerson's family life. "Music came very easily for me" Rogerson remembers. "I played all the time. I can play almost every instrument, and my strongest talents would be guitar, piano, saxophone, and drums, I've played in many bands inside and outside of school, but my favorite were always jazz bands because the music is so different. Jazz has more freedom; it's offbeat and has no rules. It's much more about playing music than reading notes off a page. I love it."
Collectors Editions will be at Artexpo New York, Booth 1840. For more information about Artexpo New York, see this month's Preview supplement.
"These are exciting works from a genre that is full of great American tradition," says Michael Young, president and CEO of Collectors Editions. "They celebrate jazz, they celebrate art and they celebrate life. For such a young painter, Tim shows tremendous depth and an understanding of his subject matter that is well beyond his years."
"We're incredibly excited to have Tim on board with us," says Steve Wetzel, director of creative services for Collectors Editions. "He adds an element of fun and excitement that speaks clearly to a whole new modern art audience."
