Lauri Blank creates artwork for the 2002 Grammy Awards - Up Front - Brief Article

Art Business News, March, 2002

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Classical-influenced artist Lauri Blank was selected to create the artwork for the 44th Annual Grammyr Awards, which took place Feb. 27 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

"Lauri has captured both the spirit of the Grammy Awards and the emotion of our time in this vibrant work," said Recording Academy President and C.E.O. Michael Greene. "This is the first time we have ever used a still life for our official Grammy artwork, and she elegantly reflects the essence and spirit that the Grammy seek to inspire."

The artwork created by Blank graced the cover of the 44th Annual Grammy Awards invitation and program book. In addition, Blank donated another piece to the MusiCares Foundation to be sold at the Person Of The Year Tribute and Silent Auction, which was held on Feb. 25. Proceeds from the annual Person Of The Year Tribute provide support for MusiCares' Financial Assistance Program, which ensures that musicians have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.

Inspired by the masters, Blank's style--a revival movement of nostalgic realism--reflects a particular love for the Raphaelite era. By incorporating the Old Masters' techniques with current cultural ideology, Blank creates a romantic renaissance, according to Status Pro, her representative. She has participated in many exhibitions throughout the U.S. and has created a number of private commissions for galleries, private collectors, and an historic Romanian church in Montreal, Canada.
