Sotheby's

Art Business News, March, 2004

* Sotheby's of New York will handle the sale of more than 40 Impressionist and Modern paintings expected to bring in anywhere from $140 to $190 million, The New York Times reported. The paintings are from the private collection of John Hay Whitney, who died in 1982, and his wife, Betsy Cushing Roosevelt Whitney, who died in 1998.

While the collection includes works by artists such as Manet, Degas, Monet and Sargent, it is Picasso's "Boy With a Pipe,"--which experts estimate will bring in around $70 million--that is expected to be the star of the sale, which takes place May 5.
